whispers in the corridors
Amid heightened scrutiny over examination integrity, government sources indicate that restrictions on Telegram during the NEET examination window may not be lifted immediately after the test concludes. Officials are reportedly considering extending the curbs for a limited period to prevent the circulation of misleading answer keys, manipulated scorecards, and coordinated misinformation campaigns that typically spike in the immediate aftermath of high-stakes exams.
The move comes in the backdrop of last year’s controversies, where unverified content on messaging platforms triggered confusion among candidates and forced authorities into reactive damage control. By prolonging the restriction, authorities aim to create a buffer window to stabilize official communication channels and ensure that authenticated information reaches students first.
However, such a decision could raise concerns over digital access and proportionality, particularly for students relying on Telegram for legitimate academic use. While no formal announcement has been made, the proposal reflects a broader shift toward pre-emptive information control in India’s examination ecosystem, where the battle against malpractice is increasingly extending beyond the examination hall into the digital domain.
